WG Digital was established in 2014 with the vision of creating a wine enthusiasts club, offering a unique online wine store which would be testament to the art and science of winemaking.

The primary goal was to provide a platform where members could access relevant wine-related topics, including news and wine reviews, thus enhancing both their wine knowledge and their shopping experience. To further build and strengthen the community, WG Digital also offered the expertise of professional sommeliers to assist new members in discovering their wine preferences and encouraging them to become part of the vibrant wine community.

Challenge

Once the acquisition was completed, the new owners of WG Digital aimed to enhance the software team. Their primary objective was to provide robust support to the marketing team and continuously enhance the online wine shop while introducing new features. A major part of the team’s responsibilities revolved around supporting marketing campaigns that occurred 2-3 times a week.

Additionally, there was a constant need for optimising the online wine shop’s code and graphics, encompassing the conceptualisation, design, and implementation of innovative modules and products. The focus remained on delivering an improved shopping experience and facilitating the smooth execution of marketing initiatives.

Solution

It wasn’t long after the WG Digital team was formed within Holycode that they achieved desired and positive results. The application’s optimisation process went smoothly, and as a result, new and innovative ideas emerged, leading to a boost in sales. Some of these ideas are still actively utilised today, contributing to the continued success of the online wine shop, such as:

  • an online questionnaire/application for consultation with the sommeliers
  • a system for evaluating/reviewing wines by the users
  • a wine upselling system
  • a tag system that displays wine ratings by world-renowned sommeliers
  • landing pages and mini-sites for the promotion of the wines
  • Christmas wines packages that are already well known among Swiss customers
